Structure
& Geotech
Datarock has developed a suite of products designed to automate and enhance the collection of structural and geotechnical data across a variety of geoscience datasets.
Structural and geotechnical data acquisition can be resource-intensive, requiring geologists and engineers to be strategic about where and how data is collected. By automating these processes, Datarock enables broader, more consistent data coverage across the ore deposit—improving efficiency and reducing costs
Datasets
Datarock’s advanced products are designed to automate and enhance the collection of structural and geotechnical data across a range of dataset types, improving efficiency, consistency, and coverage:
- RGB core imagery
- Acoustic and optical televiewer
- LiDAR-based pit and face mapping
- Core scanning data
Value
- Cost and labour efficiency minimises manual logging, reduces reliance on specialists, and optimises drilling and data collection workflows
- Faster, scalable data acquisition rapidly captures structural and geotechnical data across entire deposits—core, pit walls, and televiewer—improving coverage without increasing field time
- Stronger decision-making and ore body knowledge enables more accurate mine planning and targeting by integrating structural insights directly into modelling and operational decisions
Use cases
Structural measurements from core photography
Datarock Core software allows for several types of orientation data to be extracted from traditional core photography and some core scanner imagery datasets.
Applications
- Fracture orientation
- Vein orientation
- Foliation/Bedding orientation
Geotechnical data extraction from core photography
Our Datarock Core software enables fast, scalable extraction of high-quality geotechnical data directly from core imagery. This delivers a robust and consistent dataset in significantly less time than traditional methods.
Applications
- Rock quality designation (RQD)
- Fracture frequency/spacing
- Joint Set Analysis
- Discing Analysis
Automation of televiewer interpretation
Televiewer (ATV and OTV) provides very large amounts of detailed geotechnical and structural data which can be difficult and time consuming to extract. Datarock has developed a series of analytics workflows that automate the collection and prediction of structural and geotechnical data from televiewer.
Applications
- Bedding orientation and thickness
- Fracture orientation (dip/dip direction)
- Fracture aperture and roughness
- Fracture infill classification
- Foliation and fabric mapping
Pit and underground face mapping
Datarock harnesses drone (UAV) imagery and LIDAR scanning to automate and improve geological and geotechnical data extraction.
Applications
- Map and score face conditions
- Map geotechnical features (e.g. fractures and faults)
- Map infrastructure
